WELCOME TO HERBERT OF LIVERPOOL

May I take this opportunity to introduce myself.
I am Herbert Howe, I started my career in 1959 and in 1983 was approached by a youth training organisation involved in training 16-18 year olds.
In 1997 we acquired derelict premises within Liverpool town centre, these premises were furnished and decorated to a high standard to accommodate trainees and apprentices.
All of the teaching staff at Herbert of Liverpool Training Centre are fully qualified within the hairdressing profession and are qualified to cert Ed level. (Teaching Qualification)
In July 2006 Herbert moved the Training Centre to a new purpose built, multi million pound building, which is commonly known as the Bling Bling Building such is the impact of the new building on Hanover St.
Such is the phenomenonal success of the Training Centre, we are inundated by requests for places and by early in the year all the training centre places are filled.
At the Training Centre we offer two Programmes:
Apprenticeship
An apprenticeship is aimed at 16/17 year olds and is not time bound but has a time allowance of approx 2 years. An apprenticeship has 7 mandatory units and 2 optional units.
There are two key skills, Application of Number and Communication both at Level 2 NVQ. Key Skills are completed by a portfolio, which is incorporated into the hairdressing programme, and finally an exam. Students who have obtained GCSE exam results of G or above in maths and English are exempt from the final test but must produce copies of their exam results.
Advanced Apprenticeship
An advanced apprenticeship is aimed at learners who have completed an apprenticeship up to level 3, and have good all round hairdressing skills and are looking to move more into a managerial or supervisory role.
This course also should last approx 2 years.
Key skills are at Level 2 NVQ; these are Application of Number and Communication, which again is completed by a portfolio, followed by an exam.
Learners who have GCSE exam results of D and above are exempt from the final test on production of their exam results.
For Learners to be accepted on to the Level 3 NVQ course they have to sit a comprehensive interview with the Training Team.
